MADEIRA EMBROIDERY SHORT SLEEVE
DESCRIPTION
Short sleeve shirt featuring Madeira embroidery, camp collar and scalloped hem. Front tie fastening.
Madeira embroidery is a meticulous tradition known for its intricate designs inspired by the island's rich flora and culture. It is often used to embellish items like tablecloths and bed linens.
In the early days of Madeira Embroidery production, white thread was predominantly used, with blue and red being more rarely employed. It wasn't until the 20th century that brown thread was introduced. A unique aspect of Madeira Embroidery relates to the secrecy surrounding the designs. Families would carefully guard their embroidery patterns, passing them down from generation to generation.
While Madeira Embroidery factories can be found in Funchal, traditionally, skilled embroiderers practice their craft in their homes, scattered throughout the entire island.
